Hitting the water
Over the last five years the Czech Republic has seen an unusually large increase in the popularity of recreational boating.
This year, the number of registered small boat users exceeded 16,000 up from less than 13,000 at the start of the decade. Add to that 360 marine yachts sailing under the Czech flag.
The number of those seeking a boating “driving licence” also serves as stark evidence of this trend. Five years ago, authorities had issued around 4,000 such licences; last year the figure was twice as high. In total, around 100,000 Czechs are now able to captain motorised boats.
